In Memory of Richard Beaumont

We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of our friend and colleague Richard Beaumont.

In a half-century of leadership in the field of human resources management, Richard was a consultant, facilitator, and advisor to global corporations, nonprofits, and various branches of government. Richard took on many prominent roles during his career, including CEO and Chairman of ORC Worldwide, deputy undersecretary of the US Navy, senior vice president and member of the board of directors of Amerada Hess Corporation, and president of the Board of inlingua AG. He was an emeritus board member of Darden School of Business (University of Virginia) and Innovation Resource Center for Human Resources (formerly IRC), and a founding member and fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources (NAHR).

As a Founding Board Member of Delaware Canal 21, we will forever owe gratitude to Richard - not only for his leadership - but for establishing the mission. He was among the first to have the insight that the best, if not only way to improve the canal’s maintenance would be to raise supplemental funding, and he helped bring in experts in public space management and redevelopment from New York City to help us understand how we could achieve such a goal.

We are proud to keep his memory alive and press on with that mission. After years of quiet negotiations at multiple levels of government, we are finally commencing on our organization's most critical project - one that germinated from a seed he planted long ago.

Richard is survived by the love of his life, Deborah Hinckley. For 47 years they shared their love of travel, great food, wine, art, and the Delaware Canal.

Donations received in Richard’s memory will directly support the flagship project set in motion by his ideas.
